I remember it so well. A boy moved in next door and of course having 3 boys here it took exactly zero minutes for everyone to become friends. Before we knew it he was having a birthday but I really knew nothing about the boy other than his Dad was a drummer junkie and as such he passed it down. We could hear their jam sessions floating or rather drumming down into the street and he was good, Learning but talented. It was after so much deliberation of what is the newest hottest toy that everyone wants where I scrapped that entire idea and headed in to the nearest music store. A practice pad and a set of drumsticks later and the boys were ready for a birthday party! I was so nervous about the gift choice because it was maybe a bit too personal, but really when did we become a society of giving just to give and what constitutes to personal? The next time that I saw his Dad he told me that they were both blown away that I would take the time to give such a gift and the smile on their faces told me that I had absolutely made the right decision!!
That was my pivotal moment. Even now as I reflect, I am reminded of that unforgettable feeling. That has what (too many) years later brought me here. If I can help and support a child to grow his passion then why can I not do the same for me? The sheer joy I experienced in that moment filled my soul with happiness, and who wouldn’t want to chase that? While I’m not suggesting that every gift I give can replicate that moment—though it would be incredible if it could—I aim to share a piece of my joy—a personal offering—with the hope that it resonates with its recipient. My goal is for my creations to stir emotions, evoke feelings, provide simple joys, and overflow with inspiration.
In addition to these heartfelt gifts, I believe in the importance of storytelling as a key element of my work. Each piece I create carries with it a narrative—an underlying message that speaks to the heart and soul. This storytelling not only adds depth and meaning to my creations, but it also invites the recipient to connect on a more personal level. By sharing the journey behind each creation, I hope to inspire others to create their own stories filled with passion and joy. After all, a story can stir the imagination and transform a simple gift into a cherished memory that lingers for years to come.
Twisted Sister is growing, and evolving. Everyday brings a new change but also moves us one step closer to this vision, this dream and my joy.
