This morning, I woke up feeling inspired to create a YouTube video, but it seems the universe had other plans for me.
So with Valentine's Day approaching quickly, I've been busy crafting all sorts of little hearts—mini heart cup cozies, heart keychains, and pocket hugs. Today, I even started working on a Valentines gnome!
As a mom of three school-aged children, I often feel a pressing need to create thoughtful treats for their classmates and teachers. With my passion for crafting, I relish the opportunity to share handmade gifts whenever possible.
I realize there are plenty of existing patterns out there to choose from, and I could simply pick any of them. In fact, given the simplicity of the shape, I'm sure my pattern would align closely with many others. But where’s the fun in that when I'm still on my own learning journey? While I’m confident in my basic crochet stitches, I'm eager to expand my skills by creating my own things and writing my own patterns. So, as a little gift to you, here’s my free crochet heart pattern! 12 rows, worked in continuous rounds, the hardest part is joining the humps together but if you can work through that then its a breeze with only single crochets and decreases.
Heart Pattern
Hook size: 3.75
Yarn: Worsted weight wool – any color
Hump (make 2)
Round 1: 6 SC in a MR (6)
Round 2: Inc in each stitch around (12)
Round 3-4: SC in each stitch around (12)
Place a stitch marker in the last stitch and leave in place
F/O. leave longer tail for some sewing.
Repeat steps for the first hump only DO NOT fasten off.
Now it is time to join the two humps. First find the tail from the first hump and pull to the outside. This will be used at the end to sew the gap between the 2 humps. I like to use stitch markers as a visual of what the first stitch in each round 5
Round 5: Join the first hump with a SC in the first stitch of round 5. Continue to SC in each stitch around on both humps. You should now have 24.
Round 6: SC in each stitch around (24)
Now that you have both humps secured, you can begin filling your heart. Keep filling as you go so that the heart is firm but you are not stretching it making holes and having your stuffing show through.
Round 7: *6 SC, decrease* repeat until the end (21)
Round 8: *5 SC, decrease* repeat until the end (18)
Round 9: SC in each stitch around (18)
Round 10: *SC, decrease* repeat until the end (12)
Round 11: SC in each stitch in each stitch around (12)
At this point I like to add a little bit more stuffing to the bottoms of the hearts and shape them a little bit. I just use a crochet hook to push a little bit at a time in until I am happy with the result.
Round 12: decrease in each stitch around (6)
F/O. You can fasten off with a longer end in order to add a key ring or you can weave in your ends for a pocket heart!
Happy Valentines !!!
